Music for your soul.
After releasing a self-produced EP at 17, Amali Ward played Bluesfest, Southern Roots and national tours with Naturally 7 and The Bamboos.
She spent the next few years honing her songwriting chops, writing in the US with Jack Splash (Cee Lo Green, Estelle, John Legend), Cri$tyle (Rihanna, Beyonce), and Warryn Campbell (Alicia Keys, Kanye West), before returning to Australia to finish writing her debut album 'Back In Time', with longtime collaborator, keyboardist and songwriter Beau Golden (Daniel Johns, Guy Sebastian).
Before its release, it had already won 2 major gongs; The John Lennon Songwriting Contest (judged by Motown legend Lamont Dozier), and APRA's Stephen Schwartz Songwriting Award, as part of its Professional Development Awards (previous PDA winners have included Gotye). Amali was also invited to support Seal on his 'Soul 2' tour, and co-write/feature on triple j favourite Dr Don Don's infectious track 'Good Thing'.
Recorded in LA, produced by David Ryan Harris (John Mayer, India.Arie) and backed by most of Mayer's touring band, 'Back In Time' was released in 2013, with the Sydney Morning Herald describing Amali as a "soulful singer with a Motown heart on her sleeve", Music Fix as a "soul queen", and Drum Media describing closing track Black Dog as "wonderful." After a successful national tour, Amali is currently writing her second album.
